Bupropion
(Wellbutrin SR®, Wellbutrin XR®) tablets
Bupropion is an anti-depressant that can also be used to improve your mood, sleep energy levels, appetite, and restore your interest in daily living. It may decrease fear, anxiety and unwanted thoughts.
How do I take this medicine?
You should take Bupropion on a regular schedule, (at the same time every day), according to your prescription. Your dose may need to be changed several times before finding out what works best for you. You may need to take it for a month or more being starting to feel better.
You can take this medicine with or without food, with water or another beverage.
Avoid taking Bupropion at bedtime if you have trouble sleeping
Continue taking your Bupropion, even if you feel well. Medications such as Bupropion work in the background to improve your mood and overall well-being. If you want to discontinue the medication, your doctor will help you taper off of the medication over a few weeks
If you forget to take this medicine: Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule with your next dose. Never take extra medication to make up for your missed dose.
What are the side effects?
All drugs may cause side effect, however, many people using this medication have no side effects or only minor side effects. Call your doctor or seek medical attention if you experience any of the following side effects, or any other side effects that bother you or do not go away.
Dry mouth
Nausea and upset stomach
Trouble sleeping
Weight loss
Dizziness
Anxiety
Strange or vivid dreams
Tremor
Dizziness or feeling shaky
Seizure
How can I be safe when taking this medicine?
Follow the prescription instructions. Ask your care team if you have any questions about the instructions. Do not take a higher dose or take it more often than prescribed.
Avoid driving until you have a good sense of how this medication affects you.
Caution drinking alcohol as you may be more sensitive to its effects
