Mirtazapine
(Remeron®, Remeron SolTab®) tablets
Mirtazapine (Remeron®) is an anti-depressant that is used to treat depression and improve mood. It can also be used to improve sleep, boost appetite, help you gain weight. You may need to take this medication for several weeks before it starts to work.
How do I take this medicine?
You should take Mirtazapine at bedtime, because it often causes sleepiness.
You can take this medicine with or without food, with water or another beverage.
Continue taking your Mirtazapine, even if you feel well. Medications such as Mirtazapine work in the background to improve your mood and overall well-being. If you want to discontinue the medication, your doctor will help you taper off of the medication over a few weeks
If you forget to take this medicine: Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule with your next dose. Never take extra medication to make up for your missed dose.
What are the side effects?
All drugs may cause side effect, however, many people using this medication have no side effects or only minor side effects. The most common side effects of this medication are:
Dry mouth
Sleepiness
Sedation
Feeling hungry
Weight gain
Constipation
Feeling dizzy or weak
Strange dreams
Rarely, Remeron can cause an abnormal heart rhythm called a prolonged QT interval, or an allergic reaction. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe or unusual symptom.
How can I be safe when taking this medicine?
Follow the prescription instructions. Ask your care team if you have any questions about the instructions. Do not take a higher dose or take it more often than prescribed.
Avoid driving until you have a good sense of how this medication affects you.
Caution drinking alcohol as you may be more sensitive to its effects
