Long-Acting Opioids
Fentanyl transdermal patches
(generic; Duragesic ®)

A Fentanyl (Duragesic) patch is a long-acting opioid medication in the form of a patch that you stick on your skin. When placed on the skin, fentanyl patches release a steady dose of fentanyl into your system over the course of about 3 days.
How do I use this medicine?
You should change your fentanyl patch on a regular schedule, according to your prescription. When it is time to change your patch, simply remove the old patch and place a new patch on your skin. See below for specific instructions on how to do this.
Continue using your fentanyl patch, even if your pain is under control. Long-acting opioids like fentanyl patches work in the background to lower your overall pain level. If you stop using it suddenly, you can have symptoms of withdrawal including worsening pain, nausea, and diarrhea.
